Plymouth District Library hosted an informative program on Monday night about drug overdose prevention and harm reduction. Our speakers from Wayne County Dept. of Health, Human & Veteran Services and Wayne State Center for Behavioral Health & Justice shared data about overdose deaths in our county. We learned that Wayne County experienced almost a third of all overdose deaths in Michigan and that Fentanyl drives 4 out of 5 of those deaths. We also learned about emerging drug trends.
Narcan – a safe and lifesaving overdose reversal medication – and drug testing strips are helping to reduce those numbers; these supplies are available free of charge from the Well Wayne Station in front of the library.
We are grateful to these partner presenters and to the Recovery Action Network (RAN) who helped us learn about how to recognize an overdose as well as details around administering Narcan/Naloxone.
Folks who missed the program can view the slides from Well Wayne and Recovery Action Network. More information about the Well Wayne initiative can be found at EndOverdoseWayne.org.
