Plymouth District Library is seeking proposals from experienced journalists to serve as contracted mentors for our community newspaper club. The mentor will provide guidance, training, and support to volunteer writers, editors, and contributors, with the goal of strengthening local journalism skills and producing a high-quality publication.
Scope of Work
- Provide coaching and feedback to contributors on reporting, writing, and editing.
- Lead periodic workshops or training sessions (e.g., interviewing, fact-checking, ethics).
- Offer guidance on story development, community coverage, and journalistic best practices.
- Review drafts and advise on clarity, accuracy, and tone as needed.
- Support the editorial process to help meet deadlines.
Qualifications
- Significant journalism experience (print, digital, or broadcast).
- Strong editing and mentoring skills.
- Familiarity with community-based reporting preferred.
- Ability to work collaboratively with volunteers of varying experience levels.
Engagment Details
- Engagement term: 10 months with possible renewal.
- Estimated hours: 3-6 hours per month.
- Compensation: $75-$200/month.
