Last year, Plymouth District Library underwent renovations to make our space more inviting, comfortable, and refreshing for our patrons. Now that our new playspace is open and available for use, we’ve put together some tips and expectations for those looking to pay us a visit.
The Midnight Forest is the newest addition to our Youth Level, and debuted at the beginning of this Summer during our Grand Reopening Celebration. With a slide, balance beam, and turf for kids to engage in imaginative play, surrounded by books and toys, this space is designed as a gentle place for quiet discoveries, creative adventures, and play-based learning.
Adults can help keep this magic alive by being engaged participants in your child’s play, as well as following our Code of Conduct and these guidelines upon entering:
- Remain with your children at all times.
- Help your kids use their walking feet and indoor voices.
- Redirect climbing, jumping, and rough play to more mellow, imaginative games.
- Shoes must remain on at all times.
- Refrain from eating food in the play area.
- Please keep children from climbing the decorative mushrooms.
- Help protect our smallest friends by leaving our Baby Nook reserved for smaller children who are not yet walking.
In addition to the new space, all of our library resources are still available on the Youth floor. Children’s movies and video games can now be found on the main floor near the holds shelf. Youth audiobooks and early reader books are on the two window walls flanking the youth help desk.
Surrounding the Midnight Forest are comfortable seating options for parents and caregivers to monitor play, as well as read with their children. Our hope is that you and your child have a memorable, creative experience together discovering new stories and ways to play.
If your child wishes to play with toys in the space, they are available to check out at our Youth Help Desk. You may browse our toy menu and check them out for play in the Midnight Forest by giving staff your library card. Toys on the menu are occasionally rotated to give children new experiences.
More play items are expected to arrive in the coming weeks and months, with additions like a dollhouse, toy kitchen, and engaging activities for children to play both independently and with others.
As we observe the Midnight Forest and accept feedback from our visitors, we are continuing to make changes to improve the experience of our patrons in an effort to make it sustainable and enjoyable for the future.
