Celebrating the 35th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act
The ADA was a major milestone in the fight for equality. It prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in all areas of public life. Its passage marked the beginning of a more inclusive society—one where people with disabilities have the right to fully participate in daily life, barrier-free.
As we reflect on over three decades of the ADA, we recognize the progress made—and the work that remains. Ramps instead of stairs, accessible restrooms, closed captions, screen readers, and workplace accommodations are now part of everyday life thanks to this landmark legislation. But advocacy continues, especially around issues like digital accessibility, equitable healthcare, and inclusive education.
This anniversary is a time to honor the disability rights advocates who fought for change and to recommit ourselves to building a world where accessibility, respect, and opportunity are guaranteed for all.
