Author Spotlight: Viola Shipman

Author Spotlight: Viola Shipman
Join us for An Evening with Viola Shipman – Wednesday, May 7, 7–8 PM at the Penn Theatre

Plymouth District Library is thrilled to welcome Viola Shipman, the beloved pen name of bestselling author Wade Rouse, for a special evening of storytelling, books, and conversation at the Penn Theatre.

With more than a dozen novels and memoirs to his name, Rouse writes under his grandmother’s name, Viola Shipman, as a tribute to the woman who first introduced him to the power of stories. His novels celebrate the everyday heirlooms that shape our lives—bracelets, recipe boxes, quilts—and the family traditions that ground us. Now, he returns with what may be his most ambitious novel yet: The Page Turner.

Released this April, The Page Turner takes readers inside the glittering and often cutthroat world of publishing. It follows Emma Page, a young romance writer hiding her manuscript from her elitist literary family—until a long-buried family secret surfaces and threatens everything they’ve built. Set between the Hamptons and Lake Michigan, this witty, layered drama explores the bonds of family, the courage to own your voice, and the enduring love of books.

Beyond his fiction, Shipman (Rouse) is a warm and generous literary voice—known for his humor, honesty, and ability to find meaning in the small details of life. He also hosts the weekly Facebook Live series Wine & Words with Wade, where he connects with readers and fellow authors.

Whether you’re a longtime fan or new to his work, this event is not to be missed. Come be part of a night that celebrates books, community, and the stories that help us see—and save—ourselves.

Registration is required: Please register each participant with an email address to receive a complimentary e-ticket. You will receive a confirmation email that includes a link to your ticket.
