Whether you’re interested in mastering a new skill, exploring career opportunities, or simply learning something new, our program offers an engaging, hands-on way to tap into local expertise.

A Diverse Team of Local Experts
The success of this program is rooted in amazing volunteers, which we have. Let’s introduce you to a few of our experts/
Carmen B. – Drawing and Watercolor Specialist
Carmen, a billing specialist with a passion for fine art, brings her expertise in drawing and watercolor techniques to the program. With a degree in fine art, she is eager to share her creative skills. “I signed up to be an expert to use my degree in fine art to teach people drawing skills and watercolor techniques. I think not only is it fun to do, but also very relaxing and therapeutic,” Carmen explains. Her sessions promise to be both inspirational and soothing for aspiring artists.
Sherrie B. – Real Estate Guide and Community Advocate
As a realtor, real estate investor, and Airbnb host, Sherrie is dedicated to demystifying the home-buying process. Passionate about empowering first-time buyers, she draws from her own experiences in the real estate market. Sherrie’s personal connection to the library—having grown up as a “library kid” and insisting on living within walking distance—fuels her excitement about this program. Her insights are sure to help community members navigate the journey toward homeownership and even explore short-term rental opportunities.
Pavan G. – Automotive Engineering Enthusiast
Pavan leads in Automotive Systems, Safety, and Testing Engineering. Growing up, he found refuge in the library, immersing himself in literature about driverless cars, race cars, and cutting-edge technology. His deep-seated fascination with the future of transportation, combined with a commitment to community learning, drives him to share his insights. Pavan aims to inspire others to explore the vibrant intersection of innovation and engineering, keeping the spirit of curiosity alive.
Sandra H. – Professional Gardener and Green Advocate
With 30 years of experience as a professional gardener, Sandra is enthusiastic about guiding newcomers and young enthusiasts into the world of gardening and sustainable farming. Her mission is clear: to cultivate an appreciation for the importance of growing things and to promote the green industry as an essential part of our community’s future. Sandra’s expertise will help budding gardeners learn the practical skills and environmental benefits of nurturing nature.
Carlyle C. – Toastmaster Focused on Communication & Leadership
Carlyle specializes in developing speaking and leadership skills as a Toastmaster. Recognizing the immense value of effective communication in both personal and professional realms, he is passionate about making these skills accessible to all. His sessions are designed to empower community members, opening doors to enhanced workplace performance and leadership opportunities that can change lives.
Ryan – Multi-Faceted Health and Safety Expert
Ryan brings a rich background in healthcare to the table. Currently a Medical Assistant at Michigan Medicine with previous experience as an Emergency Medical Technician and Wilderness First Responder, he covers a diverse range of topics—including Emergency First Aid, Exercise and Health, Cooking, and the Pre-Med Pathway for College. For Ryan, the library has always been a pillar of the community, and he sees this program as a unique opportunity to give back by sharing his valuable insights.
Joe F. – Digital Navigator and Resume Expert
A retired Software Product Manager, Joe leverages his extensive experience with Apple products—from Mac laptops to iPhones and iPads—as well as his expertise in resume writing. His goal is simple: to be a good neighbor by helping others navigate the digital world and enhance their career prospects. Joe’s approachable manner and deep knowledge make him an ideal guide for anyone looking to boost their technical and professional skills.
