Bridging Generations: Connecting Through Library Events

  • Updates

There’s something special about coming together—sharing stories, learning from each other, and finding common ground across generations. Whether it’s grandparents teaching grandkids how to play chess, families watching a movie together, or friends of all ages creating art, these moments create lasting connections.

At the library, we believe that learning and fun shouldn’t be limited by age. That’s why we’re hosting a variety of intergenerational events—programs designed to bring people of all ages together to connect, create, and celebrate. From games and crafts to poetry and film, these events are a great way to meet new people, share experiences, and strengthen our community.

And this year, our March Reading Challenge is open to all ages for the very first time. Whether you’re a lifelong reader or just getting started, we invite you to join in the fun and celebrate National Reading Month with us.

Kids have been enjoying this challenge for years, but starting in 2025 (March 1-30), patrons of all ages can join in. Here’s how it works:

  • Pick up a challenge sheet from the library.
  • Stop by each week to check in and share what challenges you’ve completed.
  • Adults and teens will earn weekly raffle tickets for exciting prizes.
  • Youth will earn weekly prizes.
  • Everyone who completes the challenge wins a free book.

Join us in celebrating the joy of reading all month long. Sponsored by Friends of PDL.

Why Intergenerational Events Matter

These programs aren’t just about having fun (though that’s a big part of it). They offer something deeper—an opportunity to share knowledge, learn from each other, and build connections across generations. Whether you’re collaborating on a LEGO masterpiece, exchanging poetry, or playing board games, you’re not just participating in an event—you’re becoming part of a larger community.
