Summary

To accommodate early literacy development, Plymouth District Library is adding new programming to our Youth Department program schedule.

Literacy development begins at birth. Reading aloud to children helps build brain connections during the first 5 years of their life. Reading to babies and young children is the single most important thing one can do to help prepare them for learning and reading. Here at Plymouth District Library we strive to provide early literacy opportunities for children and their families. To accommodate early literacy development we are adding new programming to our Youth Department. We will be offering:

Babytime: This program is held on the 2nd Friday and 4th Monday of each month from 10:30am to 11:15am in the Storytime Room (Lower Level). This includes 15 minutes of rhyme time and stories followed by 30 minutes of playtime. Caregivers will have an opportunity to gather with other members of the community while their children play. The intended audience is ages 6 months to 24 months. Due to safety concerns please make arrangements for older siblings.

Messy Play: This program is held on the 3rd Friday of each month from 10:30am to 11:30am in the Storytime Room (Lower Level). Play is an important part of early literacy development in children. The children will explore different textures and materials in the way they learn best, which is play. Please dress your child for mess. The intended audience is ages 0 – 4 years and their caregiver.

Super Sized Storytime: The program will take place in the Dunning Room (Main Level) on select Wednesdays from 10:30am to 11:00am. This program will offer more space to wiggle, move, and listen to stories. The intended audience is ages 2-5 and their families.

Play and Learn Storytime: The program will take place in the Storytime Room (Lower Level) on select Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:30am to 11:15am. This storytime is for children who prefer a smaller, cozier atmosphere. The intended audience is ages 2-5 and their families.

Kindergarten Bootcamp: Throughout the year we will offer a program just for the almost Kindergarten crowd! This program will run on select Tuesdays or Thursdays at 1:00pm – 1:30pm. Children will have the opportunity to learn skills they need to succeed in Kindergarten. The intended audience is ages 4 and 5, the caregiver must remain on the Lower Level while the child participates in the program.

There is no registration for our regular storytimes sessions. Anything that requires registration will be noted in the Newsletter and Event Calendar. We will also be hosting Storytimes on select evenings and weekends so be sure to stay up to date with our Events Calendar
