Macmillan Publishing to Restrict Library Ebook Purchases

Libby by Overdrive

Beginning November 1, 2019, Macmillan and their subsidiaries and imprints will restrict access to e-book purchases for libraries. Under the new policy, a library purchasing group will be restricted to one copy of new releases for two months. For Plymouth patrons, this will have a dramatic effect on wait times for new releases. Our library is in an Overdrive purchasing group organized by Midwest Collaborative for Library Services (MCLS). Under Macmillan’s new policy, the MCLS group will be limited to a single purchase to be shared by over 20 public libraries.

We urge our digital patrons to learn more about this issue. The American Library Association has already condemned this strategy by Macmillan. Please click on this link, #ebooksforall, to learn more about this embargo and why the ALA and e-book patrons are concerned about this issue.
