The Michigan eLibrary's NetLibrary e-book collection includes over 12,500 full-text books in electronic format. The selection of materials includes primarily non-fiction books on a wide range of topics of interest including business, travel, cooking, history, self-help and general reference. These books are stored on-line and are accessed on the web.

Plymouth/Twp. Residents: Before being able to "check out" e-books at home or work, you must first set up an account. When you find an E-book you would like to read, scroll down to the bottom of the window where the title & author information is listed. At the very bottom, you will see a URL (web address). Click on this underlined link. You will then be prompted for your Plymouth Library Card number. Enter this without any spaces between numbers and click “Login.”

You will be at another window which gives you the choice of viewing or checking out the book. (You may view the book without an account, but must have an account to checkout.) Click the Checkout button. At the next screen, you will be able to “create an account." Once your account is created, you may then search the database for the E-book of your choice to check out.

Non-Residents may create an account using a computer connected to the Internet at an authorized Michigan library. The Plymouth District Library is an authorized library. To do this at Plymouth, click in the NetLibrary’s E-book icon on the Library’s home page or click here. You may then create your account at the NetLibrary’s page and will be able to checkout E-books from home by going to the same NetLibrary web page.

  • If you want to read a book for an extended period of time you can 'check it out' for up to 6 hours. You may start and stop reading for short periods of time and the book will remain checked out only to you and will not be accessable to any other patron. At the end of 6 hours, the book will automatically be checked in.

  • If you want to simply "browse" a book, access to that book is terminated after a certain amount of inactivity on the part of the reader. If, during the time you are browsing, another patron requests that book, your reading time is limited to 20 minutes.

  • Using the web browser print feature, patrons may print small sections of a book, but not the entire book.

  • Only one person can view a book at a time.

  • For more information on this service, please call the Plymouth District Library at (734) 453-0750, press 3.
