Summer Reading 2008
Final Program for Preschool Summer Reading Program: Storytime Bonanza ~ Tuesday, August 5th at 10am OR Wednesday, August 6th at 7pm. Register at Youth Services Desk.
Final SRP Program for Children 5 to 12 – Saturday, Aug 9 at 2pm ~ Michigan magician, Jeff Wawrzaszek, of A2 Magic, performs magic tricks and brings nonstop family fun!
Registration begins on July 31 at the Youth Desk.
Final Summer Read Pary for The Edge : Tuesday, August 5, 6:30 pm ~ Celebrate a successful summer of reading with snacks, video games and fun!

STORYTIMES
Lap Sit Storytime for children 6 to 24 months - Lap sit storytime is a 15 minute song and rhyme time for babies on their care-giver laps. Storytimes will be held on Monday, August 11 at 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. and will be repeated on Saturday, August 16 at 10:00 a.m. Registration for all sessions will begin on Monday, August 4. Limit of 16 children per session. Wait list is available. Registered care-giver and baby only, please!
Baby Play! for children
6 to 24 months - Baby Play! is a 20 minute story and play
time for babies and their caregivers. Baby Play! will be held on Monday, August 25 at 10:00 am and 11:00 am and then repeated on Saturday, August 30 at 10 a.m. No registration is
necessary.

to help, Monday – Friday, 3pm-midnight. They are available
for all grade levels and all course levels. Subjects include Math,

LIBRARY GROUPS MEETING DURING

$$$ AND SENSE –– NO MEETINGS DURING THE SUMMER
Join with others who are interested in learning and sharing information
on personal finance and investing at this discussion group at the
Library. In its second year, the group provides a forum to study
and share personal investment information, learn investment terminology,
review different investment tools, and study individual stocks,
mutual funds, annuities, etc. Each month, members follow and report
on a mock portfolio they set up on the Internet. This is not a
stock club, no monies are involved; members plan, moderate, and
participate in each meeting. New members are welcome at any meeting.
Meetings are usually held on the first Wednesday of the month in
a Library meeting room.
LOW VISION SUPPORT GROUP – Thursday, August
7, 1 pm
This meeting will take place on the first Thursday of every month.
Participants will share advice on coping skills and adaptive technologies
in a supportive atmosphere. A qualified facilitator will lead the
group. Library staff members will be on hand to provide assistance
with Library equipment, services and offerings. For more information

The Plymouth District Library Board will hold its regularly scheduled
monthly meeting in the Library. This meeting is open to the public.

COMPUTER NEWS
Plymouth residency is required for all attendees of the Library's
computer training classes. Please register by calling 734-453-0750,
ext. 4.
COMPUTER BASICS –Thursday, August 7, 10:00 am - 11:30
am ~ This course is designed to teach Microsoft Windows
and basic mousing skills to Plymouth residents. This class provides
one session of mousing practice and hands-on work with the keyboard
and Windows. Participants are urged to return during the Drop-in
tutoring sessions for additional practice.
ADVANCED EMAIL –Monday, August 11, 1:00
pm -2:30 pm ~ For Plymouth patrons who have Yahoo accounts,
you will learn how to create an address book and signature file.
Tell electronic junk mail good bye – you will learn how to
use an e-mail filter to get rid of it once and for all.
INTRO TO MS WORD –Tuesday, August 12, 7:00 pm -8:30
pm ~ Students will learn how to open, close, modify,
save and print a basic Word document. The class covers basic features
of this software program only. Students must be comfortable keyboarding
and using a mouse prior to taking this class.
MAKE A BUDGET WITH MS EXCEL - Tuesday, August 19, 10:00 am - 11:30 am ~ Find out how to make a household or personal budget while learning Microsoft Excel. You must be comfortable with keyboarding and Microsoft Windows basics before signing up for this class.
INTERMEDIATE MS WORD - Wednesday, August 20, 7:00 pm
- 8:30 pm ~ In
this class students will learn how to adjust a layout using Page
Setup, use auto correct, insert dates and symbols, work with two
Word documents at the same time, and more.
BASIC INTERNET SEARCHING –Monday, August 25, 1:00 -
2:30 pm ~ This class for Plymouth residents will help
computer users learn the basics of using the Internet. This will
include an explanation of terms, use of a browser and utilizing
search engines on the World Wide Web. Participants should be comfortable
with the Microsoft Windows basics and using a mouse. Training is
based on the hardware and software available in the Library.
INTRODUCTION TO POWERPOINT - Tuesday, August 26, 10:00 am - 11:30 am ~ Learn the basics of how to do a computer slide presentation using Microsoft Powerpoint. Topics include selecting a template, adding text and graphics, and then putting the entire finished product together into a slideshow. Participants must be comfortable using MS Windows and have good keyboarding skills.
ADVANCED MS WORD - Wednesday, August 27, 7:00 pm - 8:30pm ~ Students
will learn how to insert bullets and numbering, alphabetize, use
tables, insert symbols and more.
TIPS for GOOGLE and YAHOO –Thursday, August 28, 2:00 pm
- 3:30 pm ~ Join us to learn how to do so much more with these
two popular search tools. You’ll learn how to access word
definitions, measurement conversions, instant maps, stock quotes
and more.
DROP IN COMPUTER TRAINING –NO DROP-IN TUTORING DURING THE SUMMER ! ~ High school students will teach Plymouth
residents to use a mouse, Windows 2000, the Library catalog, the
Internet and how to set up a free e-mail account using Hotmail
or Yahoo! We do offer basic training in MS Word. However, we do
not offer training in Windows Vista or other software programs.
