Money Management Seminars 
Investment Strategies for Turbulent Times ~ Thursday, June 4, 7:00 p.m.
Rick Bloom, of Bloom Asset Management, will discuss what investors need to consider when investing in a down economy, including the importance of a diversified portfolio and the need to re-evaluate investment goals and risk tolerance. ALIVE on the Andrea Doria! ~ Monday, June 8, 7:00 p.m.
The Friends of the Plymouth District Library invite the public to spend an evening with author Pierette Dominica Simpson, who along with her grandparents, survived the sinking of the Andrea Doria in 1956.  Ms. Simpson’s book, ALIVE on the Andrea Doria! will solve the mysteries surrounding the improbably collision of the Andrea Doria and the Stockholm, just 60 miles from Nantucket on that early summer night.  Enjoy this lively program and refreshments – register by calling the Library at 734.453.0750, ext. 4

Floral Arrangements from your own Garden! ~ Thursday, June 25 , 7:00 p.m.
Learn how to bring the beauty of your garden indoors at this exciting workshop taught by Sandra Healey of Earthenjoy FlowerScaping.  Sandra will help you decide which flowers to grow, how to choose the right containers, use foliage and fillers, and set the mood you’re looking for.  Join us at 7pm on Thursday, June 25 and get your creative juices flowing.  Sandra will bring sample arrangements to inspire you. Register at Readers Advisory Desk, by calling 734.453.0750, ext 4 or online now.

Summer Reading Program 2009

Be Creative At Your Library - Free Summer Programs for Children! Registration begins on June 1 and continues through July.

Kickoff Program for the Entire Family: June 23 at 11:00 am, 2:00 pm, or 7:00 pm.
Laugh along with the zany comedy of O.J. Anderson. Pick up free tickets for this program beginning June 15th at the Youth Services Desk.

Storytimes

Register for all storytimes at the Youth Services Desk or by phone at 734.453.0750, #5.

Lap Sit Storytime for children 6 to 24 months - Lap sit storytime is a 15 minute song and rhyme time for babies on their care-giver laps. Storytimes will be held on Monday, June 8 at 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. and will be repeated on Saturday, June 13 at 10:00 a.m. Registration for all sessions will begin on Monday, June 1. Limit of 16 children per session. Wait list is available. Registered care-giver and baby only, please!

Baby Play! for children 6 to 24 months - Baby Play! is a 20 minute story and play time for babies and their caregivers. Baby Play! will be held on Saturday, June 2 at 10 a.m., Monday, June 22 at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m., and on Saturday, June 27 at 10 a.m. No registration required.

BOOKS & BITES–Tuesday, June 9~ 3:30-4:30 p.m.
Vampire High by Douglas Rees will be discussed. Advance registration is required, and attendance is limited to the first 12 teens who register. Pick up books at the circulation desk. TEEN ADVISORY BOARD (TAB) –-Wednesday, June 17, 7:00 pm
Teens, 12 to 18 years old, are invited to share ideas for improving the Library’s teen programs and services. Muffins and juice will be provided. No registration is necessary. Need community service? Receive one hour of service for every meeting you attend.

D.I.Y. = DO IT YOURSELF at the Library - Wednesday, June 17, 3:00 - 4:30 pm --Make an altered book with Artist Leslie Greenseisen. All supplies provided free of charge. Register at Readers Advisory Desk.

ROBOTICS with Ann Arbor's Rocks and Robots ~ Wednesday, June 24, 6:00 - 7:30 pm -- Come and mess around with autonomous robots that can be programmed to do almost anything. In this brief introduction to robotics and programming you'll be amazed with the endless possibilities of these robots.

Ani/Manga ~ Saturday, June 20, 1:00 pm - Watch anime, snack on Japanese treats and work on a project like candy sushi.

LIVE HOMEWORK HELP – Online tutors are waiting to help, Monday – Friday, 3pm-midnight. They are available for all grade levels and all course levels. Subjects include Math, Science, Language Arts and Social Studies. Live Homework Help is easy to find on the Library’s homepage – plymouthlibrary.org – look for the Live Homework Help Now icon. LIBRARY GROUPS MEETING DURING JUNE

LOW VISION SUPPORT GROUP – Thursday, June 4, 1 pm
This meeting will take place on the first Thursday of every month. Participants will share advice on coping skills and adaptive technologies in a supportive atmosphere. A qualified facilitator will lead the group. Library staff members will be on hand to provide assistance with Library equipment, services and offerings. WRITING MY LIFE STORY: A SENIOR WRITING GROUP -

Seniors can share and preserve their life stories with the guidance of Plymouth author, Jane Saylor. No previous writing experience is necessary. Come to either session or both.

LIBRARY BOARD - Tuesday, June 16, 7:30 pm

The Plymouth District Library Board will hold its regularly scheduled monthly meeting in the Library. This meeting is open to the public. Individuals with special needs who plan to attend this meeting should contact the Library at 453-0750 if auxiliary aids or services are needed. Advance notice is required.


COMPUTER NEWS


Plymouth residency is required for all attendees of the Library's computer training classes. Please register by calling 734-453-0750, ext. 4.

BASIC INTERNET SEARCHING –Monday, June 1, 11:00 am- 12:30 pm ~ This class for Plymouth residents will help computer users learn the basics of using the Internet. This will include an explanation of terms, use of a browser and utilizing search engines on the World Wide Web. Participants should be comfortable with the Microsoft Windows basics and using a mouse. Training is based on the hardware and software available in the Library.

INTRO TO MS WORD –Tuesday, June 2, 10:00am -11:30 am ~ Students will learn how to open, close, modify, save and print a basic Word document. The class covers basic features of this software program only. Students must be comfortable keyboarding and using a mouse prior to taking this class.

INTERMEDIATE MS WORD - Tuesday, June 9, 10:00 am - 11:30 am ~ In this class students will learn how to adjust a layout using Page Setup, use auto correct, insert dates and symbols, work with two Word documents at the same time, and more.

MAKE A BUDGET WITH MS EXCEL - Tuesday, June 9, 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm ~ Find out how to make a household or personal budget while learning Microsoft Excel. You must be comfortable with keyboarding and Microsoft Windows basics before signing up for this class.

BASIC EMAIL - Wednesday, June 10, 11:00 am - 12:30 pm ~ Learn how to create a free e-mail account using an online service in this one-session class. You will also learn how to compose, send and delete email messages on that account.

COMPUTER BASICS –Friday, June 12, 11:00 am - 12:30 pm ~ This course is designed to teach Microsoft Windows and basic mousing skills to Plymouth residents. This class provides one session of mousing practice and hands-on work with the keyboard and Windows. Participants are urged to return during the Drop-in tutoring sessions for additional practice.

TIPS for GOOGLE and YAHOO - Monday, June 15, 11:00 am - 12:30 pm ~ Join us to learn how to do so much more with these two popular search tools. You’ll learn how to access word definitions, measurement conversions, instant maps, stock quotes and more.

ADVANCED MS WORD - Tuesday, June 16, 10:00 am - 11:30 am  ~ Students will learn how to insert bullets and numbering, alphabetize, use tables, insert symbols and more.

JOB SEARCH & RESUME CLASS - Tuesday, June 16, 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm~ For those seeking help in job search and learning tips and hints on how to write resumes that will result in jobs.

SHARING PHOTOS ONLINE - Thursday, June 18, 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm ~ Learn about the various online options for either sharing your photos with family and friends or creating photo albums online and ordering prints to be delivered to your local drug store. Bring your own photos saved on either a USB Flash Drive or CD-ROM. Participants must be comfortable using MS Windows and have good keyboarding skills.

COMPUTER BASICS, PART II - Friday, June 26, 11:00 am -12:30 pm.~ If you have successfully passed Computer Basics, this is the next class for you.  Hone your skills at clicking and dragging with your mouse.  Learn how to save and move files around on your hard drive.  Become comfortable using your Start Menu items.  You must be able to use the mouse prior to taking this class !

INTRODUCTION TO POWERPOINT - Tuesday, June 30, 10:00 am - 11:30am ~ Learn the basics of how to do a computer slide presentation using Microsoft Powerpoint. Topics include selecting a template, adding text and graphics, and then putting the entire finished product together into a slideshow. Participants must be comfortable using MS Windows and have good keyboarding skills.

MS EXCEL LEVEL II - Tuesday, June 30, 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm ~ For students who have completed the "Make a Budget with Excel Class. Excel II  will cover the use of functions, Inserting comments, create a chart, learn to insert rows and columns, formatting the spreadsheet and printing the spreadsheet.

DROP IN COMPUTER TRAINING –NO SESSIONS HELD DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS! ~ High school students will teach Plymouth residents to use a mouse, Windows 2000, the Library catalog, the Internet and how to set up a free e-mail account using Hotmail or Yahoo! We do offer basic training in MS Word. However, we do not offer training in Windows Vista or other software programs.
