Knowing the Score: A Brief History of Great Films and Film Music

Join us for this four-part summer series combining Film & Music History.  Along the way enjoy film clips from The Jazz Singer (1927), Gone With the Wind (1939), The Best Years of Our Lives (1946), High Noon (1952), and many others.

June 18
Part I: The Sound of Movies
How film music began, and how music is used in films.

July 9
Part II: Hollywood's Golden Age
The film score hits it's stride as it accompanies some of tinsel town's classic films.

July 30
Part III: The Film Score Grows Up
After World War II, films and film music become darker and more realistic.

August 20
Part IV: The Classical Film Score, Lost and Found
Big changes in films and scores in the 50's, but it all comes back again in the 70's.
