A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens
It was the best of times, it was the – well, you know the rest. This month we are revisiting this quintessential classic Dickens novel as 2012, the 200th Anniversary of Dickens’ birth year, comes to a close. Whether you read it in school or as an adult (or not at all) there has never been a better time to either revisit or finally get around to this masterpiece. To call A Tale of Two Cities a classic is an understatement considering most people are at least familiar with its opening stanza - whether they have read it or not. The timeline of the novel is set leading up to and during the French Revolution and of course, two cities in question are London and Paris. A Tale of Two Cities was originally published in 1859 in 30 weekly installments as part of Dickens’ literary newspaper, All the Year Round.
