Tuesday, September 7, 10:00 a.m. ~ Medicare 101
Bettie Hughes of the Area Agency on Aging and The Senior Alliance returns to the library to answer questions about eligibility, coverage and enrollment under each part of Medicare. Monday, Septermber 13, 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. ~ Scrapbooking
Join us for a back-to-school scrapbook program. We provide a spacious, well-lit work area and seasonal die-cut shapes. Thursday, September 23, 7:00 p.m. ~ Money Management ~ To Do List for Children of Aging Parents

LIBRARY GROUPS MEETING DURING September

LOW VISION SUPPORT GROUP – Thursday, September 2, 1 pm
This meeting will take place on the first Thursday of every month. Participants will share advice on coping skills and adaptive technologies in a supportive atmosphere. A qualified facilitator will lead the group. Library staff members will be on hand to provide assistance with Library equipment, services and offerings. WRITING MY LIFE STORY: A SENIOR WRITING GROUP -

Seniors can share and preserve their life stories with the guidance of Plymouth author, Jane Saylor. No previous writing experience is necessary. Come to either session or both.

PLYMOUTH LIBRARY GARDEN GROUP - Thursday, September 23, 7:00 pm
Join local gardeners in June to discuss "Preparing Beds for Raised Bed Gardening." The Garden Group meets every month during the gardening season on fourth Thursdays. All gardeners are invited – no registration is required.

BROWN BAG BOOK DISCUSSION - - Wednesday, September 22, 12 noon.
This month's discussion invites members to read The Girls from Ames by Jeffrey Zaslow. Copies of the books are available at the circulation desk. Bring a lunch; beverages are provided. NEEDLECRAFTERS GROUP - Monday, September 27, 7 pm
Calling all knitters, quilters, needlepointers and other needlecrafters! Bring your latest project and work on it while sharing hints and techniques with others. This is not a teaching class, but rather a sharing group.


YOUTH DEPARTMENT NEWS

Storytimes

Lap Sit Storytime for children 6 to 24 months - Lap sit storytime is a 15 minute song and rhyme time for babies on their care-giver laps. Storytimes will be held on Monday, September 13 at 10:30 a.m. and will be repeated on Saturday, September 18 at 10:30 a.m. Registration for all sessions will begin on Tuesday, September 7. Limit of 16 children per session. Wait list is available. Registered care-giver and baby only, please!

Baby Play! for children 6 to 24 months - Baby Play! is a 20 minute story and play time for babies and their caregivers. Baby Play! will be held on Monday, September 27 at 10:30 a.m. and repeated on Saturday, August 28 at 10:30 a.m. & Saturday, October 2 at 10:30 a.m. No registration required.

Preschool/Family Evening storytime for children 2 to 5 years old - These programs allow siblings and other family members to attend as long as one member is between the ages of 2 and 5. Storytimes are Tuesdays, September 7 - October 12 at 6:30 p.m. and Wednesdays, September 8 - October 13 at 7:00 p.m. Registration begins on Tuesday, August 31.

Toddler/Parent storytime for children 2 to 3 1/2 years old - Two programs will be offered. The 10 a.m. program is for one adult with each toddler. Exceptions are made for twins, otherwise please make other arrangements for siblings. The 11 a.m. program allows other family members to attend as long as one member is between the ages of 2 and 3 1/2. These programs run on Wednesdays, September 8 - October 13. Registration begins on Wednesday, September 1.

Preschool storytime for children 3 1/2 to 5 years old - Two storytimes will be offered; one at 10 a.m. and the other at 1 p.m. These programs run on Tuesdays, September 7 - October 12. Children must be prepared to attend without an adult; caretakers must remain in the library.
Registration begins on Tuesday, August 31.

Youth Programs

Homeschoolers at the Plymouth District Library - An afternoon of information and entertainment for homeschooling families on Wednesday, September 22 at 1:00 p.m. Sign up at Youth Services in person or by phone at 734-453-0750, #5, starting September 15.

Reading Education Assistance Dogs (R.E.A.D.) for children in Grades 1 - 6.
The program is held on the first Monday of every month. The R.E.A.D. Dog will be here on Monday, October 4th from 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Kids will sign up for a 15 minute time slot to read to a certified therapy dog. (Sorry, the R.E.A.D. will not be here in September - even dogs take a break for Labor Day.) Register at Youth Services in person or by phone at 734-453-0750, #5.

TEEN EVENTS

BOOK TRAILER WORKSHOPS ~ Wednesdays, September 15, September 29, & October 6, 3:15 p.m.
A progressive series of workshops on how to create your own book trailer! Learn how to write a screenplay, set the scene, film and do post-production. Come to the premiere showing and pizza party on Wednesday, October 6 at 6:30 p.m. Register at 734-453-0750, ext 4 or online at plymouthlibrary.org.

BOOKS & BITES–Tuesday, September 21, 3:15 -4:15 p.m.
Wuthering High by Cara Lockwood will be discussed. Advance registration is required, and attendance is limited to the first 12 teens who register. Pick up books at the teen services desk. VIDEO GAMING: Game On @ the Library on Thursday September 9 at 3:00 - 4:30 pm. Come in for friendly competition on our gaming consoles: Xbox 360, Wii and PS2. Snacks provided!

TEEN ADVISORY BOARD (TAB) –-Saturday, September 25 at 3:00 pm
Teens, 12 to 18 years old, are invited to share ideas for improving the Library’s teen programs and services. Muffins and juice will be provided. No registration is necessary. Need community service? Receive one hour of service for every meeting you attend.

 


LIBRARY BOARD - Tuesday, September 21, 7:30 pm

The Plymouth District Library Board will hold its regularly scheduled monthly meeting in the Library. This meeting is open to the public. Individuals with special needs who plan to attend this meeting should contact the Library at 453-0750 if auxiliary aids or services are needed. Advance notice is required.


COMPUTER NEWS


Plymouth residency is required for all attendees of the Library's computer training classes. Please register by calling 734-453-0750, ext. 4.

BASIC INTERNET SEARCHING –Wednesday, September 8, 10:00 am- 11:30 am ~ This class will help computer users learn the basics of using the Internet. This will include an explanation of terms, use of a browser and utilizing search engines on the World Wide Web. Participants should be comfortable with the Microsoft Windows basics and using a mouse. Training is based on the hardware and software available in the Library.

COMPUTER BASICS 1 –Friday, September 10, 11:00 am - 12:30 pm ~ This course is designed to teach Microsoft Windows and basic mousing skills to Plymouth residents. This class provides one session of mousing practice and hands-on work with the keyboard and Windows. Participants are urged to return during the Drop-in tutoring sessions for additional practice.

MS WORD, LEVEL 1 – Monday, September 13, 10:00 am - 11:30 am ~ Students will learn how to open, close, modify, save and print a basic Word document. They will also learn to adjust a layout using Page Setup and use auto correct. Students must be comfortable keyboarding and using a mouse prior to taking this class.

COMPUTER BASICS, PART II - Thursday, September 16, 10:00 am -11:30 am ~ If you have successfully passed Computer Basics, this is the next class for you.  Hone your skills at clicking and dragging with your mouse.  Learn how to save and move files around on your hard drive.  Become comfortable using your Start Menu items.  You must be able to use the mouse prior to taking this class !

MS WORD, LEVEL 2 - Monday, September 20, 10:00 am - 11:30 am ~ In this class students will learn how to insert dates, bullets and numbering, alphabetize, use tables, symbols and more. This class is for students who have completed MS Word, Level 1 or have the equivalent experience.

MS EXCEL, LEVEL 1 - Monday, September 27, 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm ~ Find out how to make a household or personal budget while learning Microsoft Excel. You must be comfortable with keyboarding and Microsoft Windows basics before signing up for this class.

FACEBOOK FOR ADULTS new– Wednesday, September 29, 7:00 pm- 8:30 pm ~ Learn why so many folks are fans of Facebook. Basic set-up and privacy restrictions will be discussed. Find out how to locate friends and take part in online events. This is NOT a hands-on class - no accounts will be created in this class.

DROP IN COMPUTER TRAINING – Saturday, September 25, 10am - 12:30 pm ~ High school students will teach Plymouth residents to use a mouse, the Library catalog, the Internet and how to set up a free e-mail account using Hotmail or Yahoo! We do offer basic training in MS Word. However, we do not offer training in Windows Vista or other software programs.
