BASIC COMPUTER SKILLS
This course is designed to teach basic computer and mousing skills
to Plymouth residents. This includes an introduction to the Windows
operating system. The class provides one session of mousing practice
and hands-on work with the Library's electronic catalog. A follow-up
session in the computer training room is held one week later
for additional experience.
BASIC INTERNET
This class for Plymouth residents will help computer users learn
the basics of using the Internet. This will include an explanation
of terms, use of a browser and utilizing search engines on the
World Wide Web. Participants should be comfortable with the Microsoft
Windows basics and using a mouse. Training is based on the hardware
and software available in the Library. BASIC E-MAIL
Learn how to create a free e-mail account using Yahoo E-mail in
this one-session class. You will also learn how to compose, send
and delete email messages on that account. Registrants must be
Plymouth residents and should be comfortable using Microsoft
Windows and basic Internet tasks. TIPS AND TRICKS FROM GOOGLE AND YAHOO
This 90-minute class is for Plymouth residents who have taken the
Beginning Internet class, or who have had some exposure to search
engines. Participants will learn to use Yahoo or Google to view
images on the web,find maps and driving directions and locate
people, define words, see weather forecasts, do metric conversions
and other time saving shortcuts. MANAGING YOUR E-MAIL ACCOUNT
You will learn how to create mailing groups, upload photos and
attachments to your e-mail and more in this class. You must have
an existing Yahoo E-Mail account at the time you are taking this
class. INTRO TO MS WORD
Students will learn how to open, close, modify, save and print
a basic Word document. The class covers basic features of this
software program only. Students must be comfortable keyboarding
and using a mouse prior to taking this class. INTERMEDIATE MS WORD
In this class students will learn how to adjust a layout
using Page Setup, use auto correct, insert dates and symbols, work
with two Word documents at the same time, and more.
ADVANCED MS WORD
Students will learn how to insert bullets and numbering,
alphabetize, use tables, insert symbols and more.
ADDRESS BOOK AND LABELS IN MS WORD
It’s never too early to start thinking about your holiday
card list! The Library will offer a class on creating an address
book and making labels using Microsoft Word. Students will learn
how to do a mail merge and print return address labels as well
as mailing labels. Prior experience with MS Word is required for
all students. MAKE A BUDGET WITH MS EXCEL
Find out how to make a household or personal budget while
learning Microsoft Excel. You must be comfortable with keyboarding
and Microsoft Windows basics before signing up for this class.
INTERNET AUCTIONS
This new, exciting class will teach Plymouth residents how to participate
in online auctions on such sites as e-Bay.com and Yahoo!Auctions.
Learn how to buy and sell effectively, with valuable information
on listing, shipping and payment options. Students must be comfortable
using a computer and searching on the Web prior to taking this
class. CYBER-AGE GENEALOGY
Residents interested in learning how to use the Library's collection
of genealogy CD-ROMs will want to take this class. It also includes
instructions on using Ancestry Library Edition, a subscription
genealogy service, as well as FamilySearch and other valuable
free Internet sites. Students must be comfortable using the Internet. CYBER SMARTS
Learn how you can become a Cyber Safe family! You'll be performing
effective searches for homework help, learning to evaluate Internet
sites, and developing a family Internet policy. Adults are welcome
to bring school-aged children.
INTRODUCTION TO BLOGGING
Learn to
make your own blog using Blogger.com software. You must
be comfortable on the Web and in using word processing software. You
must also have an existing e-mail address !
INTRODUCTION TO RSS
Find
out about RSS (Really Simple Syndication) and how you can create
your own News Reader to have content delivered to you. You
must be comfortable searching the Web and have an existing
e-mail account.
WALK-IN COMPUTER TUTORING
Get one-on-one help using a computer, a mouse, the library catalog,
the Internet, or setting up a free e-mail account with Yahoo!
or Hotmail. High school students volunteer every other Saturday
to help you increase your computer skills—stay for 10 minutes
or 2 hours! No registration necessary.
