  • The original library, opened in 1923, consisted of just two wall sections of shelves with books. As of 2007, there are approximately 185,000 items in the Library including books, magazines, newspapers, DVDs, music CDs, audiobooks, video games, puppets, magnifiers, and other non-book items.

  • Today, over 22,400 City and Township residents have library cards.

  • In 2006, more than 925,000 items were circulated from the library.

  • Over 10,000 people attended meetings and programs at the Library - from storytimes to candidate forums

  • The library is administered by an elected board of City and Township residents. Board Meetings are held at 7:30 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month and are open to the public.

     


Mission of the Library

The mission of the Plymouth District Library is to help community residents meet their personal, educational, and professional information needs.


Library Loan Periods

  • 3 weeks for books on tape, CD-ROMs, non-fiction videos & DVDs and most books.

  • 1 week for music cassettes, CDs, video games, magazines, pamphlets, puppets and toys, & circulating encyclopedias .

  • New DVDs are on loan, free of charge, for one day. Most feature DVDs and videos circulate for 7 days free of charge.
